A brief History

The Dune Houses were completed in 1975 as a project for the architect to appropriate his form of an architecture of the Earth. In other words, William Morgan was seeking to build a structure that modeled what mother nature and the Earth herself would have created if it could. Thus, the two dwellings of The Dune Houses were created, each placed within the Earth with the residences taking the natural shape of the oceanfront sand dune. Over time, the duplex has been recognized for it's unique appearance of a sand dune and marvel of the Earth that has attracted not only local attention, but that of large organizations wanting to review, visit, tour or promote the home. The following examples are just a few of the known features the Dune Houses has recieved; the list may truly go on, but over the years it has become increasinly more difficult to find examples.

The Master Architect Seriies VI - 2002 - A book featuring William Morgan's work outlines a home deemed "Dunehouses" and explores it's origins, construction and design.

Home and Garden Television - December 2012 - The Dune Houses made a feature on HGTV's Extreme Homes series for a tour and review.

Discovery Channel - July 2015 - The Dune Houses made another feature on The Discovery Channel's Ultimate Homes series for a tour and review as well.

The Dune Houses made their appearance in Season 1 Episode 8, "Underground" where they were featured alongside other underground homes.

Inagural Beaches Tour of Homes - September 2016 - The Dune Houses partook in a tour of homes organized by the Beaches Town Center Agency in order to support the Jacksonville Beaches Town Center.

Fun Feature:

Upon construction of this website, The Dune Houses were featured on Atlantic Beach's Instagram story. It was pure conincidence that this came up upon design of the website. This is just another example of the limitless ways and times that the home has been featured on something so simple as a town's Instagram.
